Mechanical Technician

Medatech (Mobile Equipment Design & Automation Technology) provides engineering, design, and

prototyping service to original equipment manufacturers specializing in Mobile Equipment. Founded in 2003

Medatech has developed a significant portfolio of heavy equipment design & build projects.

Our focus has been primarily on mining equipment design but over the years has grown to include a variety

of industries; Construction, Mining, Transportation and Energy. Today we offer an "all-electric" powertrain

product known now as the ALTDRIVE system and our years of experience creating drilling equipment

prototypes has spawn a new drilling division known as BORTERRA.

Reporting to the Production Manager and working closely with all engineering team members, the

Mechanical Technician is responsible for assisting in the fabrication, assembly, verification of design,

testing and troubleshooting of prototype equipment and other projects in accordance with design

specifications, customer and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

● Assemble and build components and assemblies according to drawings, manuals and engineering

instruction in the building of prototype mobile equipment and systems.

● Assembly, repair, modification and testing of mobile equipment and systems for the purpose of

refurbishment and integration of design improvements

● Fabricate necessary components, inspect and modify outsourced components

● Assemble and install hydraulic components

● Service and troubleshoot control systems

● Troubleshoot and modify all mechanical and low voltage electrical systems

● Document as-built configurations and modifications on shop drawings and build logs

● Work with Project Team Leaders to detail and meet planned build schedules, budgets, and material

allowances

● Support and conduct functional testing of equipment as defined by Test Plans to verify design

specifications.

● Provide support for Installation and Startup at customers site

● Assist engineering with creating and updating CAD drawings as required

● Ensure department priorities are met including safety, quality, production, and delivery

The successful candidate must have:

● Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

● Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

● Critical thinking and problem solving skills; able to troubleshoot all mechanical and electrical issues

● Must be self-motivated; take directions and then take initiative to follow through on a variety of

projects

● Previous hands-on experience with various hand and power tools

● Strong mechanical and technical inclination

● Must have strong time management skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure with

simultaneous deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

● Post-secondary diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering; Technologist or Technician OR,

● Certificate and experience as a Mobile Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Millwright or other related and

applicable trades.

● Ability to read drawings and schematics and to understand tolerances of components and

machined parts

● Knowledge of hydraulics and electrical control systems

● Previous CAD experience considered an asset

● Welding experience considered an asset

● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
