Mechanical Engineer

Medatech (Mobile Equipment Design & Automation Technology) designs and builds custom mobile heavy equipment. We started in the Mining sector in 2003 and have since expanded into Construction, Waste, Transportation, and Energy. We’re known for our ability to design, build and deliver innovative electric, hybrid and diesel-powered heavy equipment for various sectors such as mining, drilling, transportation and energy, including clients such as Vale, Torex and HydroOne.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for contributing on multiple applications within project constraints, including scope and timing, to deliver excellent quality design work according to client specifications
  • Work with Project Team Leaders to detail and meet planned build schedules, budgets, and material allowances
  • Responsible for
    • Research - Investigate relevant technologies, componentry and standards to meet project requirements.
  • Conceptual design - Assist in taking a project scope and developing it conceptually towards a feasible product.
  • Design analysis - Perform various engineering calculations to size componentry and validate design, including FEA for structural members.
  • Detailed drawings - Produce fabrication and assembly drawings, generating required BOMs and complying to relevant standards.
  • Assembly and test - Hands-on work in a shop environment assisting with building, troubleshooting, and testing equipment.
  • Document writing - Generation of spares lists, maintenance manuals and technical reports, as required for each project.
  • Engineering Changes - Complete required updates to maintain and improve on existing documentation.
  • Field Work - Travel to client sites to commission, test and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Standards Compliance - Ensure department priorities are met related to safety, quality, production, and task delivery/completion.
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field such as mechanical or mechatronics engineering, or similar program
  • A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in a similar position
  • P. Eng Designation in Ontario required
  • Work experience in the mining or mobile equipment sector considered an asset
  • Interest in technical lead roles
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure with simultaneous deadlines
  • Self-motivated and capable of taking initiative to complete tasks
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • 3D CAD software experience required (MEDATech uses SolidWorks)
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience preferred (Ansys Mechanical specifically)
